Operation:OPERATION is a serious game with the goal to teach players to perform CPR in stressful situations. To achieve this we tried to create an experience that is as realistic as possible. Through my connectons we were able to borrow a CPR dummy and managed to read some compression data from it, as our main input method we used a LeapMotion mounted in front of the Oculus Rift DK2 to allow for a natural interaction with the virtual world without the need for additional controllers. The game takes place in a military setting, with the introductory level in a medical station on a base camp and the further levels planned to be combat scenarios. We worked on this game/simulation for ten weeks, in which we implemented the basic functionality and parts of the first level. It was very challenging for us, as it was the first time we worked with a 3D environment. In the end our professors and our client were very happy and we were asked to present our game at the university’s open day and at a conference of the Dutch Game Association.

In our six man team I was the Game Designer and co-producer, but also did some scripting in Unity/C# when necessary, particularly with the detection of the CPR dummy input.
